The former coach of the Temple Owls returned to Philly Thursday, just days after winning her first National Championship for South Carolina.
"I think the people of North Philly and the people that support you, they paint the picture, and this is a beautiful picture to come back and to share in the special moment," Staley said.
Staley was showered with love and gifts.
Philadelphia Eagles receiver Alshon Jeffrey gave her custom jerseys. Jeffrey played at South Carolina during Staley's start there.
Former Temple coach John Chaney and current coach Fran Dunphy were on hand to honor Staley, along with Mayor Jim Kenney.
"The number of great players that this school has turned out, and with Coach Staley winning a national championship is awesome. She's done more for women's basketball that anyone I can think of," Kenney said.
"For someone to be successful, it takes a lot of hands and you reflect, and your past is right there before you," Staley said.
So what's next for Dawn Staley? She says she is greedy and wants to win another national championship.
The three time Olympic gold medalist will coach the women's Olympic team in 2020.
