Body found in vehicle pulled from Christina River in Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Police say the body of a 42-year-old man was found inside a submerged vehicle in the Christina River in Delaware on Saturday afternoon.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrived after receiving reports around 3:30 p.m. that a car entered the water in the area behind Joe's Crab Shack in the 600 block of Justison Street.

The Wilmington Police Marine Boat and the Wilmington Fire Department aided in the rescue.

But the driver did not survive and his body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Services.

The preliminary investigation indicates that no foul play is suspected.



Police say civilians on the scene entered the water and tried to save the victim.
