Five injured, including baby, in Newark, Del. crash

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Five people, including a baby, were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Friday in Newark, Delaware.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes of South College Avenue near Welsh Tract Road around 11:40 a.m.

According to police, the 38-year-old female driver of a box truck failed to stop for a red light and rear-ended a black Acura with a 20-year-old man and a 7-month old baby boy inside.

That car went on to hit a Toyota SUV with a 68-year-old man and 66-year-old woman inside.

The Toyota then hit a Ford pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old woman.

The driver of the box truck, the driver of the Acura, and both people inside the Toyota were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The baby was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued. The baby was then taken to the hospital by helicopter.

The extent of injuries to those involved were not immediately known.

The driver of the Ford pickup was not hurt.

An investigation into the crash continues.
