The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes about a mile south of the Claymont exit in Holly Oak, New Castle County.
Police said a burgundy-colored passenger vehicle shot at a red Honda Accord and kept driving.

No one was injured, but a baby was inside the car that was hit by the gunfire, authorities said.
The baby was checked out by a medic on the scene.
"It's incredibly fortunate that both of the occupants, a 2-month-old baby secured in a car seat as well as the driver. We're so thankful that neither one of them was injured but a scary incident nonetheless," said Cpl. Amina Ali.

Delaware State Police are investigating and asking witnesses to come forward after the shooting impacted travel for hours.
