An original e-mail sent to students this morning states that four people were shot.

However, the school is now reporting that there were only two shot, and that those two individuals were Delaware State University students.

The students were taken to Bay Health Kent County Hospital, their conditions are unknown at this time.

No arrests have been made.

"I had late nights, there were certain things that happened over course of while I was here, but nothing like this where students are getting shot. That's a new thing," said Delaware State alumnus and parent, Curt Henry. "I know they are saying there were two students who got shot, but was it students who did it? Outsiders that did it? Obviously, if it was outsiders that did it, then they need to do something to make sure outsiders aren't on campus at 1:30 in the morning. I'm sure Del. State is going to do the right thing, take the right precautions."

In the letter, the Delaware State University President wrote,

"First, let me say that my thoughts this morning are with the students and families as well as any other members of our University community affected by this moment.

At Delaware State University, we are a family. An event that affects the safety of one of us affects all of us. When moments like these emerge, they are understandably fraught with anxiety and indignation.

I share your feelings, and, at the same time, I can assure students and families that the University is committed to creating and maintaining a safe campus environment.

We will pursue justice in this matter. Our commitment to ourselves and each other leads us to respond to any challenge made against our collective and individual senses of security."

The letter also states that updates will be made at a September 6th forum where community, staff and students can express their concerns.
