PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Department of Homeland Security is testing new technology to patrol the US border with Mexico.

The devices look like robot dogs, but they are officially known as automated ground surveillance vehicles.

They only have four-hour battery life in the field and cannot make arrests.

But they can capture evidence in remote areas and relay real-time data back to headquarters.

Officials have not said when they will be deployed.
