Convicted Drexel student killer hangs self in prison

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Action News has confirmed that the man convicted of killing a Drexel University graduate student has died after hanging himself in a Montgomery County prison.

James Harris, 58, was found unresponsive in his cell at the state prison in Graterford, Pa. on April 13th.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The maintenance man was convicted in late March of first degree murder, rape and other charges in the strangulation death of 27-year-old Jasmine Wright in July, 2015.

Harris had been serving a life sentence.
