PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- From North 5th Street to Willard Street to Whitaker Avenue in Philadelphia, dozens of people shouted the name "Eddie Irizarry."

"With all the support of the community, it's awesome," said Zoraida Garcia, who is Eddie's aunt. "It's given me strength to keep going."

"I feel happy for all the people that's here," said Maria Irizarry who is Eddie's sister. "I didn't think a lot of people was going to come."

Family, friends and community members stopped on Willard Street to pay their respects and place white roses where Irizarry was shot and killed by Philadelphia Officer Mark Dial on August 14.

Police said this all began when Irizarry was seen driving erratically near B and Erie streets.

On the day of the shooting, police officials said Irizarry was outside the car when he was killed after lunging at police with a knife. Two days later, the department acknowledged Irizarry was fatally shot while inside his car.

The family has viewed body cam video of the shooting, an attorney confirmed to Action News on Thursday. The attorney says the video shows 27-year-old Irizarry was never outside the vehicle and never raised a knife or lunged at police.

He says the video just reinforces their case that the initial report of what happened on August 14 was false.

A criminal investigation is being conducted by the district attorney's office. As the internal investigation continues, police are working to track down where their initial narrative came from.

"I haven't slept," said Garcia during Thursday's march. "Every time I close my eyes, I see my nephew's image. But the whole world will soon be able to see that."

Irizarry's family said the body cam video will be released to the public in two weeks or earlier, but they want it to be the unredacted version.

Surveillance video shows Dial approach Irizarry's vehicle.

Police say Dial's partner said Irizarry had a weapon. As Irizarry turned to Dial, officials say he discharged his firearm six times, killing him.

During the investigation, police said knives were found in the car.

"Shame on you guys," said Eddie's Aunt Anna. "He didn't even get a moment to obey any laws or anything that was given to him - six seconds."

Thursday's march ended at the 24th police district where Dial was assigned. The group demanded safety, transparency and accountability.

"We're going to keep fighting until the person who did the damage to our family and our community is behind bars," said Garcia.

"With a lot of help from the community, we can fight for justice," added Maria.

Irizarry's family wants Dial to be arrested and charged for the fatal shooting.

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said last week that Officer Dial would be fired due to several departmental violations, including refusal to properly obey proper orders from a superior officer, and failure to cooperate in any departmental investigation.

He was a five-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department.
