Parents were allowed to pick their kids up early from school, but some had no idea a stabbing even took place.

"Nobody haven't called me so I didn't know nothing about it.... It's crazy, they should've called me," said parent Francisco Maldonado.

Parents knew few details about why Edison High was on lockdown.

District officials say an altercation occurred inside the school on the second floor just before noon. After that, two women showed up at the school. Things then escalated outside the front doors of the school.

"As they were leaving a grandmom and another student were leaving. One bumped into the other, words were exchanged, mace was sprayed, the grandmom was hit by the mace and she pulled a knife out," explained Monique Braxton, spokeswoman for the School District of Philadelphia.

According to Philadelphia police, a 28-year-old female was stabbed in the shoulder and a 17-year-old female was cut on her finger. Both are stable. The 58-year-old woman accused of stabbing them is now in custody.

"Violence is never acceptable of a means as resolving conflict and the school district is urging family members to resolve conflict in a peaceful manner," said Braxton.

Parents were distraught after learning what happened.

"He called me and he let me know that somebody was getting stabbed," explained parent Corialys Santigo.

She says her son called her, not the school. The district says they have since sent a letter to parents.

It's unclear what transpired before the stabbing. The incident is under investigation, and police have video of the altercation.
