Learning from the past, preparing for the future

SHARON HILL, Pa. (WPVI) -- Firefighters learned how to protect their own lives during a safety lesson Thursday.

A large fire was purposely set at Delaware County's E.M.S. Center.

Local crews were taught how to avoid injuries while putting it out.

They were specifically focusing on a basement fire, the type that Philadelphia firefighter Joyce Craig died while fighting in 2014.

Better training on basement blazes was a key recommendation of a federal report on Craig's death.
