CDC: No diagnosis for over 20 percent of opioid prescriptions

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Nearly one third of the patients given opioids by doctors didn't have a diagnosis of pain.

The CDC's annual survey of doctors showed that 28% of the prescriptions didn't give a good reason for using the powerful painkillers.

And there was often no reason given for many prescription renewals.

Some doctors might have been in a hurry, however, the researchers say they have to be more careful.
