1 dead, 7 injured in wrong-way crash on I-95 exit ramp in Philadelphia

Police say two vehicles were going the wrong way on the ramp when they collided with another car going the correct direction.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- One person is dead and another seven people are injured after a multi-vehicle wrong-way crash on an exit ramp from Interstate 95 in Philadelphia.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at the exit from I-95 southbound to Academy Road in Torresdale.

Police say two vehicles, a Mercury Grand Marquis and a Mitsubishi Mirage, were going the wrong way on the ramp when they were hit by a Nissan going in the correct direction.

The male driver of the Mirage was pronounced dead at the scene.

A baby, a teenage male and a woman in the Mirage are all in critical condition.

Two people in the Mercury are also in critical condition.



Two people who were in the Nissan are in stable condition.

There was no immediate word as to why the Grand Marquis and the Mirage were going the wrong way.

The name of the person who was killed has not been released.
