Pioneering journalist Claude Lewis dies at 82

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A pioneering journalist in Philadelphia has passed away.

Claude Lewis was an award-winning newspaper reporter and columnist at the former Philadelphia Bulletin and the Inquirer for nearly 45 years.

He focused on civil rights issues of the day, and mentored many aspiring writers and reporters over the years as a founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Lewis died Thursday after a long battle with diabetes.

He was 82.
