The mustang sharing the road turned out to be a real horse, followed by a mule.
Officials had to shut down the highway in Walnut Creek, just east of San Francisco during yesterday's morning commute.
The horse and mule broke free from a fenced-in property about a mile away.
Their owners eventually wrangled the pair into a trailer.
