Chain-reaction crash involving school bus in New Castle Co. leaves 14 students, 2 adults injured

Police say the driver of a pickup truck hit an SUV, which then hit the school bus.

NEW CASTLE, Delaware (WPVI) -- A school bus filled with students was involved in a chain-reaction crash on Monday morning in New Castle, Delaware.

The collision happened just before 8:30 a.m. at Commons Boulevard and Reads Way.

According to investigators, the driver of a white pickup truck crested a hill and struck the back of an SUV which was stopped at the intersection.

That impact caused the SUV to hit the school bus.

A total of 14 students, ages 5 - 10, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The school bus driver and the driver of the SUV were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The 35-year-old driver of the pickup truck was cited for inattentive driving, police say.
