Forest fire in Burlington County fully contained, not yet under control

WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Firefighters say the forest fire that began Thursday night in Burlington County is now 100-percent contained and 30-percent under control.

Thirty five firefighters and 10 engines remain on the scene.

Flames have now consumed 3500 acres of Wharton State Forest in Washington Township.

Conditions have been brutal for those working the fire lines.

"It's been extremely hot," said Samuel Moore III. Yesterday when we were doing the backfires and the fire operations, the temperature indicator on the truck said 107 degrees."



The fire is remote, so it's not a threat to homes or businesses... but those living nearby or in surrounding counties may smell smoke.

Crews are expected to hold those lines through the overnight hours Saturday.
