Hundreds turn out for job fair at Parx casino in Bensalem

BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- Hundreds of job-seekers were hoping to hit the jackpot at PARX casino on Wednesday.

A one-day job fair was being held at the company's PARX East facility in Bensalem, right next to the casino.

The reason for the job fair is simple: Pennsylvania's largest casino is undergoing a $50 million expansion, and it needs hundreds of workers.

"We are a company that is growing and thriving and giving back the community always," said PARX Director Public Relations and Advertising Carrie Nork-Minnelli. "We are hiring 200 full-time new jobs. That is a big deal for one employer in the state."

The multi-million-dollar expansion will make PARX casino one of the largest employers in Bucks County, with over 2,500 employees.

"Obviously we want people to come to our job fair," Nork-Minnelli said Wednesday. "But you can go online today, and after today, and apply online. But today, they are coming in and filling out forms and meeting with management in those departments that they are interested in."

Opportunities are available in departments including Food and Beverage, Security, Table Games Dealers, Entertainment Department, Customer Service, Cashiers and more.

For their part, those who showed up Wednesday told Action News they were hoping to hear, "You're hired!"

"There are a lot of people looking for jobs, and instead of people waiting for call-backs they can just come here and talk to someone directly," said Tori Hasher from the Parkwood section of Philadelphia, "because that is always the best the thing to do for interviews and things like that."

"It is good for the community, because you don't need a ton of experience to get a low-level job," said Vincent Barrett from Fox Chase. "And it's an easy way to get a job and get some money."
