It happened Wednesday night.

Crews were able to reach the riders from a landing and pull them to safety.

Governor Chris Christie cut the ribbon on the new ride, located on Casino Pier, back in May.

The Hydrus replaced Seaside Heights' landmark Jet Star roller coaster, which fell into the ocean during Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
