NEW YORK (WPVI) -- In the spirit of the holiday season, it seems finding the perfect Christmas tree has become a sort of competitive sport.

And if you live in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, it can also a really costly one.

One vendor's Christmas tree came with a pretty posh price tag of $1,000.

Here's how the salesmen describes the four-digit price tag.

"You have to consider the weather five years ago, seven years ago, 10 years ago. You hear every summer about the droughts but you don't think about that come Christmas time when you're buying a Christmas tree. These guys have to pay for their water," he said.

And guess what? Someone bought it.

For the record, the vendor also has less expensive pines for sale for about $60 dollars each.
