Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh said the wounded trooper had surgery and is expected to survive.

Officers with long guns were searching a nearby wooded area, and even had their K-9s sniff through a Burger King.

"My office and the entire New Jersey State Police family is keeping our trooper and his family in our thoughts and prayers as he receives treatment for his injuries today and we will continue to support them through his
recovery," according to a statement from the New Jersey Attorney General.
