The initial 911 call requested police for a man who was reportedly attempting to take his own life with a knife.

Authorities say the man, identified as 40-year-old Mark Chambers, allegedly lunged at officers with the knife when they arrived on the scene.

At some point, shots were fired by police.

Chambers was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, where he died from multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner's office said.

It's still unclear how many officers were involved or exactly how many shots were fired.

Bucks County First Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Schorn says what exactly occurred between the initial confrontation and the police-involved shooting is now being investigated.

"Our county detectives have been assigned to investigate the matter and we will thoroughly investigate and make a determination at the conclusion of the investigation," said Schorn.

The officers involved in this shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
