Man, 2 dogs lucky to be alive after surviving massive house explosion in Berks County

NORTH HEIDELBERG TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- A man and his two dogs are lucky to be alive after surviving a massive house explosion in Berks County.

The damage is so extensive that fire officials have not even been able to go inside as they search for a cause.

The blast happened just before 7 a.m. Friday morning on the unit block of Stump Lane in North Heidelberg Township.

Video from Chopper 6 showed one wall of the home was missing, with significant damage around the rest of the building.

The man inside was able to crawl out of the debris and walk to a neighbor's house for help.



Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the explosion, but natural gas is not supplied to that area, instead propane gas is used for heat.
