5 injured after truck, SUV collide on I-476 in Delco

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (WPVI) -- Five people were injured when a box truck collided with an SUV on I-476 in Delaware County.

It happened around 2:40 p.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of the Blue Route in Springfield, just south of the Media Bypass.

The collision resulted in the SUV being squashed onto a concrete barrier on the side of the roadway at mile marker 4.1 southbound.

Five people were injured, with some having to be extricated by emergency crews.

One person was airlifted by helicopter; four others were transported by ground to area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

No fatalities have been reported.

The crash caused major delays on the Blue Route throughout the afternoon rush.
