AG Shapiro encouraged by Pope's new sex abuse mandate

VATICAN CITY (WPVI) -- Pope Francis has issued a new global church mandate for the reporting of alleged sexual abuse.

By next year, Catholic dioceses must have an abuse reporting system that's both public and accessible.

Abuse investigations must be completed within 90 days.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro says the news is encouraging, but says sexual abuse is a crime that should be reported to law enforcement.
