Quakertown responds to criticism for classes on MLK Day

Monday, January 15, 2018
QUAKERTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Quakertown Community School District's superintendent is responding to criticism that the district is holding classes on the Martin Luther King holiday.

Monday is a designated snow make-up day on the school calendar.

While the district says the calendar could not be changed, the superintendent has ordered that all social studies classes focus on the civil rights leader.

He says it's an important lesson, in light of an incident last fall, in which students made racial slurs against visiting football players from Cheltenham during the homecoming game.
