Opening ceremonies featured a tribute to military veterans and an on-ice skating routine inspired by the World War II era.
A brass quintet from the Philadelphia Pops was on hand to perform patriotic music.
And then folks started lacing up their skates and hitting the ice, as they will do all season long!
Military veterans get to skate for free on opening day Friday until closing at 11 p.m.
The Rothman Institute Ice Rink at City Hall will be open 7 days a week through February 25, 2018.
