It happened around 9 p.m. when a vehicle overturned in the northbound lanes just north of the Girard Avenue exit.
Police said the driver was taken to Jefferson Torresdale hospital with serious injuries. Police did not say if this person was the fatality.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
