Man arrested for riding bicycle on Schuylkill Expressway

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Pennsylvania state troopers have arrested a man for riding his bicycle in the middle of rush hour traffic on the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76).

It happened around 8:30 a.m. Friday in the westbound lanes near Center City Philadelphia.

An Action News producer on her way to work was among the motorists who spotted the man.

She was able to capture a picture of him as traffic moved slowly by.

He is seen riding between the left and center lanes of the expressway just west of the on-ramp from the Vine St. Expressway (I-676).

Traffic in the left two lanes was backed up to a crawl as drivers tried to avoid hitting him.

State police caught up with man and pulled him over west of the Girard Avenue exit.

Video from a Sky 6 camera shows a trooper helping the handcuffed man into a patrol car, then loading the man's bicycle into the trunk.

There was no immediate word how the man ended up on the expressway or what charges he is facing.
