Philly Sheriffs head to Puerto Rico to aid recovery

Sunday, October 15, 2017
Efforts to restore power to Puerto Rico are moving slowly along.

The Army Corps of Engineers has contracted with more companies, hoping to speed up the process.

Only 15 percent of residents have electricity now, down slightly from last week. The governor wants to have 95 percent on the grid by mid-December.

Four members of the Philadelphia Sheriff's Office left for the island Sunday morning to take aid supplies and help with the recovery effort. All have family there.

Puerto Rico's law enforcement network has been strained, because many members lost their own homes to Hurricane Maria.
