Marine running 31 marathons visits Philly

Friday, October 13, 2017
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- 31 days, 31 cities, 31 marathons. That's the goal for Marine veteran Rob Jones.

Jones' journey started on Thursday in London, and on Friday he began his stateside tour along Kelly Drive here in Philadelphia.

Jones lost both of his legs after stepping on an IED while serving in Afghanistan in 2010.

Jones' mission is simple: raise money for veteran's charities and to lead by example.

"I needed to be an example for other veterans and show them that just because you come back wounded in some way, psychologically or physically, it doesn't mean that you can't contribute to society. You're not broken because you got injured," Jones said.

Jones likes to challenge himself.

In 2013, he rode his bicycle 5,200 miles diagonally across America.

Jones will run next in New York City.
