SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Authorities are searching for a man who attacked a SEPTA transit police sergeant Monday night.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. at 58th Street and Angora Terrace in Southwest Philadelphia.

VIDEO: Suspect shoves SEPTA police officer

Several officers were called to the Angora station for a complaint of individuals in the restricted area.

The video shows the female officer responding to the call.

She stops the vehicle and gets out. Within moments she confronts the suspect, but just as quickly the man shoves her to the ground.

But while assaulting the officer, an image of the suspect's face fills the screen of her body camera. Police are hoping the image of the suspect will help someone identify him.

At the most, the man caught on video would have only faced a summary trespassing charge. But now, he will face charges related to assaulting a police officer.

"Person exhibits this type of behavior for such a minor offense, just leads me to believe that maybe there was more going on that warranted this male not wanted to stop whatsoever and attack an officer," said Wright.

The officer assaulted, Sgt. Lynn Perrone, has been released from the hospital and is now home recovering from her injuries.

Anyone with information should contact 215-580-8111.
