Philly officer injured by car door as suspect flees in Tioga-Nicetown

The officer was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia police officer is recovering after being hit by a car in the city's Tioga-Nicetown section.

Police said an officer stopped a car near the intersection of 22nd and Tioga streets just after 11 p.m. Sunday.

After the officer noticed a gun inside the vehicle, police said the suspect then attempted to drive off.

As the suspect tried to get away, police said one of the car doors was open and hit the officer.

The officer was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Later, police found the vehicle with a gun inside, but the suspect had fled.
