The incident began at approximately 9:30 p.m. on the 900 block of East Westmoreland Street.

Before the shooting, police say the suspect robbed a man on a bike, hit him in the hand, and took his phone before fleeing on a bike.
Two officers were able to track down the suspect and that's when shots rang out.
As one officer was approaching the suspect on foot, authorities say the suspect discharged his weapon twice toward the second officer, who was positioned in the driver's seat of the police vehicle. That officer then returned fire, hitting the suspect in the left ankle.
The suspect fell to the ground and dropped the gun. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition.
No officers were injured in the incident.

The officer who fired the weapon is a nine-year veteran of the department.
While responding to the shooting incident another police officer was involved in a collision.
It happened just a few blocks away at Westmoreland Street and Frankford Avenue.
Fortunately, that officer suffered only minor injuries.
Police did not say what caused the crash.
