Tamaralis Vellon was shot in the legs around 6 p.m. Tuesday. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for her wounds and released.
Soon after, she started feeling contractions. Around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, little Savannah Lyn was welcomed into the world.
What's more: the baby was born on her due date.
The shooting happened in the 1500 block of Rosalie Street.
Police say Vellon was involved in an argument with her neighbor, 43-year-old Onice Cox.
Police say during that argument Cox reached into her waistband, pulled out a gun, and fired. The bullet went through Vellon's left leg and hit her right leg.
The baby's grandmother, Madelyn Lagares, said Cox had been harassing them since they moved in three weeks ago.
"The lady has been knocking on our doors with hammers and on the wall, she turns the radio on at four o'clock in the morning," Lagares said.
Vellon's five-year-old son was at her side when the shooting started.
"While the victim was taking her trash out there was a verbal altercation at which time Ms. Cox allegedly shot the victim," said Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum of Philadelphia Police.
Cox is charged with aggravated assault and related offenses.
