Police say the 12-year-old girl was on her way home from school when the gunman in a red vehicle, possibly an Acura, unleashed a barrage of bullets.
"The rear window goes down and they fired at least seven shots into a crowd of people who were standing on the corner," said Captain John Walker with the Philadelphia Police Department.
The girl was entering the grocery store when she was shot in the stomach. She was rushed by police to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and placed in stable condition.
At least 10 people were outside the grocery store when the gunfire erupted.
Only the 12-year-old was struck. Police do not believe she was the intended target.
Walker said there were three men inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, two in the front seats and one in the rear.
Video obtained by Action News shows the red vehicle being sought by police. It's seen in the upper right corner of this image.
The video shows people scattering as shots rang out. One of the bullets went through the window of a car parked in front of the store.
"As the vehicle comes down Wyoming Avenue and it makes a right-hand turn onto the street, you can see the vehicle firing from the rear passenger seat with an arm extended," Walker said.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
