It happened around 11:28 p.m. Sunday on the 5600 block of North 6th Street, near West Olney Avenue.
Several shell casings could be seen in the middle of the street.
Police say the 26-year-old victim was taken to Einstein Medical Center in a private vehicle.
The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the right side of his body.
He was placed in critical but stable condition.
No arrests have been made.
