Plaque honoring Philadelphia's first African-American detective vandalized

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A plaque honoring a slain police officer was vandalized in South Philadelphia.

The memorial at 16th and South streets is dedicated to George L. Williams.

He was the city's first African-American detective and was killed in the line of duty in 1918.

Police officers scrubbed the red spray paint off the plaque Monday night.

Anyone with information on a suspect should contact police.
