PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The man killed in a crash on Kelly Drive after a rideshare driver made an illegal turn and caused a three-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia, has been identified.

The crash happened around 3:22 p.m.

According to police, the driver of a black Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Kelly Drive when he made an illegal left turn onto Reservoir Drive.

The Altima was hit by a white Nissan Rogue. The Altima then spun around and hit a black BMW.

A passenger in the Altima was killed. He has been identified as 41-year-old Steven Tyree Moultrie.

Sources tell Action News the driver who caused the crash was working for a rideshare service at the time.

The 44-year-old driver of the Altima, who sources say was working for a rideshare service at the time of the crash, suffered minor injuries.

Now, police are looking into charges against the 44-year-old driver who they say made that illegal turn, causing the crash.

Police said Friday that no other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

It's a sudden loss impacting Moultrie's family, as well as the broader Divine 9 Greek family.

Moultrie's fellow brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated can't believe the 41-year-old is gone.

"We're just trying to process this loss, it's very sudden. We were all together last week," said David Richardson, a Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Brother and President of the Nu Sigma Chapter, of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Friends of the Southwest Philadelphia native describe it as the loss of a true community servant.

"Steve worked in the mental health fields working with students and the elderly," Richardson said.

Moultrie was a graduate of Tuskegee University. A proud and active member of his fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma. He was named Brother of the Month in June.

"What was his path for us -- to be a worker to really be out in the community," Richardson added. "For this to happen to someone so young, so eager, so gifted to be moving forward, it's going to take us a while to process this."

The loss is felt by many who knew Moultrie.

Kelly Drive was closed between Hunting Park Avenue and Fountain Green Drive for hours.

We spoke to several folks who were jogging or biking in the area of the crash. Every single one of them said it's not uncommon for them to see drivers make risky moves along this stretch of road.

"I feel like when there's traffic on this road, it's really not that bad. But it's more when there are not many cars on the road, that's when people start to get a little more heavy on the gas," said Dane Mandato, of East Falls.

Kevin McLaughlin, who's out there often, says the city should consider additional safety measures like more signage to make sure drivers are always aware and alert.

"A little more barriers to force people to stay in their lanes. Some measures like that would probably be good," he said.
