It happened around midnight outside the Ridgewood Senior Living at Historic Smithville on the 700 block of East Moss Mill Road in Galloway Township.
Police say the driver of a 2023 Dodge Ram van, identified as 40-year-old Eliel Vazquez-Hernandez, was traveling at a high rate of speed as his vehicle drove through the intersection of Route 9.
The van continued into the senior facility's parking lot, striking a fire hydrant and a parked vehicle before crashing into the building.
Viewer video shows the van partially engulfed in flames after it crashed.
After crews extinguished the fire, the van was left heavily damaged, with a portion of the vehicle completely charred.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pry open the van's rear doors.
Vazquez-Hernandez was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
He was also charged with several criminal offenses, including Assault by Auto, Criminal Mischief, and Causing or Risking Widespread Injury or Damage.
Vazquez-Hernandez was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for medical treatment and is awaiting transfer to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
As a result of the crash and fire, first responders evacuated more than 100 residents from the facility.
Officials with the living facility said the residents are accounted for and were safely relocated to another area of the community.
"Our team continues to work closely with emergency personnel, and we are grateful for their prompt response and assistance," officials said in a statement.
Police say two residents suffered minor injuries and were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
