PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An 11-year-old boy told Philadelphia police he was robbed of his iPhone and $300 in cash after being threatened by teenage suspects inside a bubble tea shop in Chinatown.

The incident began Monday around 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of North 10th Street, where the boy said he was approached by the suspects inside the store.

According to police, the teens ordered him to "play it cool" and walk outside with them or they would shoot him. The boy said he never saw a weapon but believed the suspects had one.

Minutes later, the robbery occurred in an alley off the 900 block of Cherry Street, just steps from the tea shop. The area is typically busy during the afternoon hours.

Residents expressed shock and concern over the incident.

"Eleven-year-old, that's crazy," said Quanjay Murray of East Falls. "I never thought it would get to a time they are robbing 11-year-olds. You that bad you rob an 11-year-old?"

Ebony Steed, also from East Falls, said, "I think it's desperation. It can be a cry for help from things they're neglected from at home. I don't think it's right. It's disgusting - obviously taking candy from a baby."

Ada Cun, who works nearby, described a separate incident that occurred around 2:30 p.m. the same day, when a young boy ran into her store near 11th and Arch Streets seeking help.

She said the boy claimed he was nearly robbed and he overheard threats from others saying they would shoot him. He remained in the store until his father arrived.

"A kid came into our store kind of scared and said he almost got robbed, and these guys were telling friends to come shoot the kid, so they came into our store for protection," Cun said.

Police said only one robbery has been officially reported and no suspect descriptions have been released. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
