350 acres burned as battle against wildfire continues in Jackson Twp., Ocean County

JACKSON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Hundreds of acres have burned in Ocean County, New Jersey as a wildfire continues to burn.

The state's Forest Fire Service said that 350 acres have burned as of Friday in the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area in Jackson Twp.

The fire, dubbed the 'Shotgun Wildfire,' is 90% contained.

According to the state's Forest Fire Service, six homes were briefly evacuated on the west side of Stump Tavern Road on Wednesday.



Stump Tavern Road is closed from Route 571 to Route 528 in Jackson Twp. The road will be reevaluated daily by Jackson Twp police and the Forest Fire Service to determine when it will be reopened.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
