17-year-old shot in the leg following possible robbery in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating a shooting that injured a 17-year-old boy in South Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

According to police, officers were called to the 1600 block of Newkirk Street around 11 p.m. following a report of a person with a gun.

About 30 minutes later, police received a report that a 17-year-old male was taken by private vehicle to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim is listed in stable condition.

Police say the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting may have been robbery-related.



At this point, no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
