Musikfest returns to Bethlehem with 450 bands and big-name headliners

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- At least one million people from all walks of life are expected to attend this year's Musikfest in Bethlehem.

Patrick Brogan, chief programming officer, said 450 bands representing all genres will perform across 15 stages.

Most performances are free, with the exception of headliners on the main stage - including Darius Rucker, Nelly, Third Eye Blind and The Black Keys.

In addition to the music, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of food and explore unique art installations.

Brogan said he hopes everyone enjoys all that Musikfest has to offer during its 42nd year.

"In addition to meeting with great friends and discovering a new favorite artist, Musikfest builds community," he said. "The same show is on the stage in front of all of us, and we're able to share that common experience together - creating bridges and building the community in a way that nothing can do like live music."

Country artist Riley Green took the main stage Friday night. Ahead of the concert, the nonprofit Flag Bros handed out 2,500 flags to support veterans and active-duty military members.

"We're thinking about what they're doing on a daily basis and also our veterans who have helped to build our country and give us our freedom," said Adam Drake with Flag Bros.

Musikfest organizers say there's still plenty to see and do, with nine days of festivities remaining.

For those looking for a safe, alcohol-free space, a new addition this year is Sober Platz, hosted by Sync Recovery Community.

"I know a lot of people who wouldn't come to Musikfest just because they didn't feel like it was a safe space, so it's nice to have this spot, and I'm most excited about having the community see that life isn't over when we're sober. That we can have a great time showing up authentically," said Laura Waits, Sync Recovery's community executive director.
