It happened around 9:45 p.m. Thursday at Arrott and Leiper streets.
Police confirmed a man in his 30s died from his injuries.
A 37-year-old man was also shot in the stomach and is in critical condition at the hospital. A 40-year-old woman was also shot one time in the leg. She is in stable condition at the hospital.
Police say all three were standing together by an apartment complex, when someone fired at least 11 shots.
"So it appears that the victim who died was more than likely an intended target since he was hit multiple times," said Chief Inspector Scott Small with the Philadelphia Police Department. "The other two victims were each shot only one time, so it's unclear if they were struck by stray gunfire or if they were unintended targets."
Police don't know if the shooter or shooters were in a car or running by.
There is no description or motive at this time, however, police said there are surveillance cameras in the area.
All of this comes as the homicide rate has fallen in the city this year compared to last year, according to recent data.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
