Tony Braithwaite is the artistic director of Act II Playhouse in Ambler as well as the director of this production.
"'Theatre People,'" is a knock about, door-slamming farce," he says. "About a playwriting couple who are hoping to adapt a novel for the stage, but the contract has not been signed, and there's a lover's spat involved."
The play connects six characters, all at a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island.
"I'm playing Charlotte Sanders. She is a Broadway playwright, one half of a duo with her husband, Arthur," says actress Morgan Everitt. "Really passionate about the theater and how it affects people."
Then there's Oliver, the young author of the novel and the woman he's in love with.
"My character's name is Margot Bell. She is a Broadway ingenue," says actress Renee McFillin.
Charlotte serves as a maternal figure for Margot.
"Kind of helping her along cause she's making a lot of mistakes," says Everitt.
"She has a one-night stand with Victor Pratt," says McFillin.
Braithwaite describes Victor as "the vacuous, self-important leading man on Broadway."
"Her new lover kind of hears her through the wall and chaos ensues," says McFillin.
Rounding out the group is Olga who works at the mansion.
"An acerbic Eastern European maid who hates theater people," says Braithwaite.
It's the newest work from playwright Paul Slade Smith.
Braithwaite says that the heart of the show is that "people will do anything to survive in the industry, but also for love, for any big passions."
"It's all about getting something and they each have a different desire," he says.
