PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating a carjacking they believe stemmed from a shootout in Philadelphia's Parkside neighborhood.

Philadelphia police were called to the 5000 block of Parkside Avenue just before 2 a.m. on Saturday for a "violent carjacking."

Police say the victim and three others were inside a black Nissan near a house party when two groups of males began exchanging gunfire directly in front of the car.

The driver ducked for cover, but when he looked up, he told police he was ambushed by two to four of the males who were allegedly involved in the shootout.

That's when he said the suspects forced their way into the vehicle at gunpoint and ordered the victim to drive away.

After driving roughly two blocks, the driver was told to pull over in the 4800 block of Parkside Avenue, where he and his friends were allegedly forced out of the vehicle at gunpoint. The armed suspects then took off eastbound on Parkside Avenue toward 50th Street, according to police.

The car was later found abandoned in the 1800 block of Nolan Street.

None of the occupants in the Nissan were hurt.

Authorities say nearly 70 shell casings were found at the scene, along with projectiles and live rounds.

The investigation is ongoing.
