Some say the victim, a 78-year-old man, was a fixture in the area.
"I would always come by this store right here -- always come past. Neighborhood love, say hi to everybody. Every day. you'd see him -- he out there ever day, Lee Sydney told Action News.
The gunfire erupted around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday on the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue near Cecil B. Moore Avenue.
The man, whose name has not been released by officials yet, died from a gunshot wound to the back.
Two others, identified as a 31-year-old and a 71-year-old, were listed in stable condition.
All three victims were standing along the sidewalk when they were struck.
Surveillance video shows people ducking for cover as the bullets start flying.
Small said a parked unoccupied vehicle and a nearby business were hit by the gunfire.
No other injuries were reported.
Now, police are searching for at least four suspects in connection with the deadly shooting.
Officials say the suspects got out of a silver or light-colored SUV, and used multiple weapons to fire more than 50 shots.
They were last seen fleeing south on Ridge Avenue, according to police.
Police said they don't know if the three people who were hit were the intended targets, but did say the 31-year-old was shot at least four or five times.
