MARKET EAST (WPVI) -- There's a new exhibit inside the old Lits Department Store at 8th and Market streets.
Revisit 1876 explores Philadelphia's Centennial Exposition through historic artifacts, immersive displays, and stories from four of the fair's major pavilions.
The Centennial was the first World's Fair in North America, and it drew nearly 10 million people from around the world to Fairmount Park.
Visitors can see how the event introduced inventions like Alexander Graham Bell's telephone and the Remington typewriter, showcased industrial might, and brought surprising novelties-including the banana and a suitcase that converted to a bathtub.
The exhibit, created by Center City District, also examines who was excluded from the celebration and connects the 1876 fair to Philadelphia today.
