Suspect in killings of 'American Idol' exec and husband used couple's gun and called police, DA says

LOS ANGELES -- The man accused of killing an "American Idol" executive and her husband inside their Los Angeles home allegedly used the couple's own gun in the shootings and then called police, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said Monday evening.

The video featured is from a previous report.

Hochman revealed the new information at a town hall, where more than 200 residents packed the Encino Community Center in the wake of the shocking murders.

Los Angeles police officers conducting a welfare check at an Encino home last Monday discovered two bodies inside with gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Robin Kaye, a longtime music supervisor for "American Idol," and her husband, Thomas Deluca. A day later, police arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the killings.

Raymond Boodarian was arrested "without incident," police said.

At the town hall Monday, Los Angeles police and the district attorney answered questions from frightened residents.

"We're having phenomenal numbers on crime reduction. That being said when two wonderful people end up dead in their own home, those crime statistics fall kind of flat," LAPD Deputy Chief Marla Ciuffetelli told attendees.

Hochman revealed more details about the killings, including about the couple's gun being used. The DA also told the crowd that Boodarian used his cellphone to call police after the crime and provided his name, which was ultimately how he was tracked down.

LAPD said the agency has stepped up patrols throughout the night in Encino. Some residents say their area is being targeted.

"The crime is out of control," Encino resident Deborah Palace told Eyewitness News. "You don't even feel safe going to sleep in your own home."
