CHERRY HILL, N.J. (WPVI) -- The Cherry Hill police have a message for the community: "Your badge is waiting."

Officers who have spent their careers serving Cherry Hill are retiring, and now it's time for the next generation to step in.

It's easier than ever to go through the recruitment process with their one-day event.

"Within three to four hours, they can have the first three steps of the process completed, so they don't need to take off multiple days and be in limbo of the process and what's going on," said Captain Sheldon Bryant.

This one-day recruitment event combines the written test, interview, and physical test. It will be held at Camden County College on September 13.

The department created this recruitment opportunity to minimize some of the barriers they learned were preventing people from going through police recruitment. It was realized that a streamlined process could produce more quality officer candidates. Recruits will get immediate feedback.

The physical test includes pushups, sit-ups, a vertical jump, and running. There are multiple chances to get it right.

"Once you go to the academy, you have to pass a pre-assessment, said Officer Anthony Amato. "If you do not pass the minimum, they do have a retest, and people have come back and been successful. It gives them an extra three weeks built in to prepare accordingly."

If you or someone you know is serious about joining the Cherry Hill Police force, get your application in by next Friday, September 5.
